Colleen Rose is more than just an art teacher. Although that's her full-time job, she spends a lot of her time and energy exploring and writing about educational strategies. I went to her blog to find out what being an art teacher looked like, and I found much more.
One thing that specifically stood out was her post about her students creating questions for an art history test. The students submitted their questions through Google forms and displayed them on a smart board. Then they had a class discussion to finalize it. I love that because it functions as a review and makes the students feel like the test is fair and an accurate representation of what was covered in class. Her most recent post (as of the time I'm writing this) is about listening. She describes the importance of listening, and relates a story about some students approaching her with concern about the interactions between some of their peers. Listening is more than just taking in the information heard and trying to empathize; true listening also involves taking action in the relevant, appropriate way. And that's what Colleen did. |
